Letters & SoundsAfter some fantastic training that staff have attended, we have decided to introduce to the setting a relatively new concept of teaching our children their letters and sounds. The Letters & Sounds' Programme is a Primary National Strategy that aims to ensure our children have continued awareness of the language we use. This is a six phase strategy and primarily we will deliver this through staff, ensuring they use correct language and pronunciation of words with our children, we will all have ongoing training!! Another aspect to this method of learning is to ensure the children are provided with opportunities where they will hear specific letters and sounds at the start of our words and within them. To enable this to be introduced we have decided to link our Makaton word of the fortnight with a new 'Sound' of the fortnight. The board for our Letters, Sound & Sign' is in the pre-school on the right as you walk in through the door, if you look on the board you will see the actions for the sign of the fortnight, the linking Makaton sign and you will see how to sign the word as usual in your childs green book. |
