At Thorne Manor Day Nursery & Pre-School Forest School we aim to promote the welfare and development of all young children within an outdoor learning environment. We aim to provide a good quality of care and education in a safe and secure environment, ensuring children have opportunities to build their confidence and extend thier learning through their own interests.
Our experienced and qualified staff will aim to continually provide opportunities for the children to explore, experience and understand their surroundings within a natural environment and will be encouraged to assess risks and undertake activities within our woodlands.
The impact of Forest School on Thorne Manor as a setting is that each child will have the opportunity to learn about his or her environment within the widely acclaimed Forest School approach. Forest Schools have been very successful in many areas, particularly in giving children opportunities to learn in an outdoor ‘classroom’ that is outside of the traditional learning environment, increasing physical, social and emotional skills. Children are encouraged to develop independence skills, improve their decision making and raise their self-esteem through small achievable tasks.
We aim to embed Forest School as an integral part of Thorne Manor throughout the year. The Forest School philosophy encourages children to follow their own learning within a natural environment, which allows for an appreciation of the wide, natural world and the outdoor learning environment. Here at Thorne Manor we are very lucky to have several small woods to explore and learn in around the farm setting.
